The Qualifi Level 4 Certificate in Laser, Light and Energy-Based Procedures is an advanced vocational qualification designed to provide learners with the specialist knowledge and practical skills required to perform non-surgical aesthetic treatments using laser, intense pulsed light (IPL), and energy-based technologies.
Learners will develop a strong understanding of health, safety, and hygiene protocols
essential for all aesthetic procedures, ensuring best practice and compliance with industry regulations. The course also builds competence in client consultation, enabling learners to assess skin and hair types, identify treatment objectives, and tailor procedures to meet individual client needs while maintaining professional standards and client care.
Through practical and theory-based learning, learners will gain the technical skills to
perform skin rejuvenation and hair reduction treatments using a range of laser, light, and
energy-based devices. Emphasis is placed on correct treatment planning, equipment
handling, and parameter selection to achieve optimal and safe outcomes for clients.
This qualification is ideal for qualified beauty therapists, aesthetic practitioners, and medical professionals wishing to progress into advanced aesthetic practice.

The course is a blend of home study theory and practical’s, with all hands-on training taking place at our Hale Barns Academy in Cheshire.


UNITS

To achieve this qualification a learner must successfully complete the four mandatory units– 35 credits:

- CO401 Health, safety and hygiene for aesthetic procedures
- CO402 Client consultation for aesthetic procedures
- AP412 Skin rejuvenation using laser, light and energy-based devices
- AP413 Hair reduction using laser, light and energy-based devices

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFI Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy or equivalent qualification, however direct entry is

acceptable if unit AP301 Skincare to support aesthetic procedures is selected as an add on. Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and anaphylaxis management qualification. In addition, all learners must prove they hold a relevant English language qualification if English is not their first language.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Learners will be able to apply essential health, safety, and hygiene principles when preparing for and carrying out aesthetic procedures. They will ensure all treatments are performed in accordance with current legislation, professional standards, and infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment for both client and practitioner.

  • Learners will be able to conduct professional client consultations to assess individual needs, identify contraindications, and determine the most suitable aesthetic procedures. They will adapt treatments to achieve optimal outcomes while maintaining high standards of communication, ethics, and client care.

  • Learners will develop a thorough understanding of the biochemistry and biology of cells, including cellular function, specialisation, and organisation. They will also understand the structure and function of major organ systems, skin morphology, and the inflammatory response, as well as facial anatomy and the physiological effects of ageing on the skin and facial bones.

  • Learners will gain knowledge of common skin types, diseases, and disorders relevant to aesthetic practice. They will understand the ageing process of the skin and the underlying anatomy, including muscles and nerve supply, to support safe and effective treatment planning and delivery.

  • Learners will be able to perform skin rejuvenation using microneedling techniques, employing both automated and manual devices to improve skin texture, tone, and condition. They will understand how to treat mild pigmentary and textural concerns safely and effectively while ensuring client comfort and post-treatment care.

  • Learners will be able to select and apply superficial chemical peels to rejuvenate the skin and reduce imperfections. They will understand the principles of chemical exfoliation, product selection, and treatment protocols necessary to achieve professional outcomes and maintain skin health.
